Business Website
Design & Development
When was the last time your website generated a lead you didn't already know about? If you can't answer that, your site isn't working. It's just there.
What Makes a Business Website Work Properly
Most businesses we work with want the same things. A website that shows the quality of their organisation, brings in enquiries, and performs well in search results. Something they can be proud of when a client looks them up, and that earns its keep as part of the business.
That comes down to four things working well together: strong design, solid technical foundations, clear and well-structured content, and visibility across search engines and AI platforms. We build all four as part of every project, and our care plans keep everything running after launch.
Each project follows the same approach. We start with what your business needs to achieve, work out what the website has to do to support that, and then build it properly. The sections below cover the detail.
- VisibilitySearch engine optimisation and the technical groundwork that help your site get found in Google and on AI platforms.
- ContentClear, well-structured pages that explain what you do and make it easy for people to get in touch.
- DesignA custom design built from your brand, with every page laid out to move buyers from your services to an enquiry.
- PerformanceFast hosting and pages built to load quickly. Our care plans keep security up to date and backups running after launch.
“We highly recommend Oxford Web Services. They offered a clear direction from the beginning to the end in order to create a new our website for us. It is not only helping us well-designed structure and looks but also considering a deep meaning of our company's needs and background. They were also very patience to us for talking and having meetings always we asked! It was very enjoyable experience working with them and we would like to give them more than five stars!”
From Strategy to Launch
The six steps we take, from the first brief to launch.
First, the brief.
We start with your business requirements and what you want the site to achieve, such as more qualified enquiries or booked consultations. The brief decides which features the site needs, and each later step builds to it.
We review competitors' sites for the gaps that lose them enquiries, from slow mobile pages to no clear next step, and plan how yours closes them.
Built around how buyers search.
The sitemap and content plan follow how your buyers search and decide. Each service gets a dedicated landing page aimed at the terms people use to find it, with a clear route from first visit to enquiry.
The pages your brief calls for, such as case studies or team profiles, sit where they answer a buyer's objections before the first call.
Laid out for phones first.
Every page starts as a wireframe and user flow, designed mobile-first and then scaled up to larger screens. The calls to action your goals need, from enquiry forms to booking buttons, go where a buyer expects them on a small screen.
You sign off the layouts as grey boxes while changes cost little, so the design starts from a structure built for lead generation.
It looks like you.
A custom website design built from your brand, aimed at the credibility buyers look for before they shortlist a supplier.
Where there are no brand guidelines, we set type and colours with you and record them, so pages added later stay on brand.
Built on a staging site.
The site is built for page speed and technical SEO from the first line of code, and connected to the systems you already use, such as your CRM, so new leads land where your team works.
You review every page on a private staging site, where each one is checked for speed and accessibility before launch.
Launched, and looked after.
At launch we set up the tracking your goals need, such as analytics and call tracking, so you can see which pages and campaigns bring in enquiries. A care plan then keeps the site updated, with small content changes each month.
Each month's care plan report sets out the work done and anything we'd recommend next.
Websites for Every Business Type
What the site has to do depends on your industry and how you win work.
Professional Services
Your prospect has shortlisted three firms and they're checking websites to decide who to call first. The firm whose site clearly demonstrates expertise, shows the team, and makes contact effortless is the one most likely to get that call.
- Trust-building design
- Team & expertise showcases
- Case study presentations
- Appointment booking integration
- Links to your client portal
B2B & Enterprise
Your buyer isn't making a solo decision. They need to build a case internally. Your website has to arm them with the information to sell your services to their colleagues. That means downloadable resources, clear case studies, and content that addresses multiple stakeholders' concerns.
- Multi-stakeholder content
- Resource libraries & downloads
- Integration capabilities
- Lead nurturing systems
- ROI calculators & tools
Multi-Location Business
Each location competes in its own local search landscape. A single homepage with 'we have offices in...' isn't enough. Each branch needs its own optimised presence with local content, local reviews, and contact details that match its Google Business Profile.
- Location finder functionality
- Individual branch pages
- Centralised content management
- Local SEO for each location
- Regional variation support
Industry-Specific
Regulated industries can't treat their website like a creative playground. Healthcare sites need accessibility compliance. Financial services need FCA-aligned content. Construction companies need to communicate safety credentials. The design is planned around these rules from the start.
- Compliance-aware design
- Industry credentialing
- Sector-specific features
- Accessibility standards
- GDPR-aware enquiry forms
Which Tier Fits Your Business?
A business website is for companies whose site needs to do more than present information. It needs to participate in the sales process. CRM integration, lead qualification, content that adapts to different audiences, analytics that show what's working. If your website is a business tool, not just a shop window, this is the right tier.
If you have a clear offering and a handful of pages covers it, a brochure site will do the job well and cost less. Simpler sites often convert better, with less to distract from the point.
If you need a client portal, booking system, or internal dashboard, you've likely outgrown a standard website altogether. That's custom application territory, with a different scope and a different build.
