1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that websites store on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile) when you visit them. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently and to provide information to site owners.

Cookies allow a website to recognise your device and remember information about your visit, such as your preferred language, theme settings, and other preferences. This can make your next visit easier and the site more useful to you.

2. Types of Cookies We Use

Strictly Necessary Cookies

These are essential for you to browse the website and use its features. Without these cookies, services like form submissions cannot be provided securely.

  • csrf_session: Session identifier for CSRF protection on forms. It is set when you open our contact page and cannot be read by scripts on the page. The matching security token is held on our server for the same hour (Duration: 1 hour)
  • cookie_consent: Remembers your cookie choices, meaning whether you allowed analytics and embedded content. It is set only when you make a choice in the banner or in Cookie Settings (Duration: 1 year)
  • Cloudflare Turnstile: Bot-protection check on our forms. It loads from challenges.cloudflare.com when you open a page or panel that contains one of our forms, and runs a short check in your browser. Cloudflare says Turnstile does not use cookies to collect or store information about you. It is part of the site's security, so it runs without a cookie choice

Preference Cookies

These allow the website to remember information that changes how the site behaves or looks, such as your preferred theme or reading settings. They are kept in your browser's local or session storage rather than in cookies, and they are not sent to us.

  • theme: Light/dark theme preference, stored in your browser's local storage (kept until you clear it; not a cookie)
  • theme-hint-dismissed and ows-refresh-promo-dismissed: Remember that you dismissed the theme hint or our promo card, stored in local storage (kept until you clear it)
  • mobile-toc-prefs and mobile-toc-seen: Your reading preferences (text size, font, line spacing and which side of the screen the tab sits) and whether you have seen the article reading assistant, stored in local storage (kept until you clear it)
  • chunk-guard:last-reload: A short-lived technical value in session storage that prevents reload loops if a page script fails to load; it is deleted when you close the tab

Analytics

With your consent we use Cloudflare Web Analytics to measure traffic. It is privacy-friendly and cookieless: it sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, and it does not track you across other websites. If you do not consent to analytics, the measurement script is not loaded at all.

Embedded Content

Some pages can embed third-party content that sets its own cookies. These load only after you consent (via the banner) or choose to load them directly:

  • Calendly: Our booking calendar on the contact page. Sets Calendly's own cookies when loaded.
  • Google Maps: The location map on the contact page. Google sets its own cookies when loaded.

We run no advertising, remarketing, or cross-site tracking cookies of any kind.

3. Third-Party Cookies

Some cookies are placed by third-party services that appear on our pages. We do not control the distribution of these cookies. You should check the third-party websites for more information about their cookies.

Calendly: Booking calendar (loads only with your consent). Privacy Policy
Google Maps: Location map (loads only with your consent). Privacy Policy
Cloudflare: Hosting, CDN, security (Turnstile bot protection) and cookieless Web Analytics. Privacy Policy

4. How to Manage Cookies

You can set your browser to reject all cookies or to alert you when a cookie is being sent. However, if you do not accept cookies, you may not be able to use some parts of our website.

Settings in major browsers:

5. Your Consent

Nothing non-essential loads until you make a choice. When you first visit, a banner lets you:

  • Accept All: Enable analytics and embedded content.
  • Reject All: Only strictly necessary cookies are used, and nothing else loads.
  • Manage: Turn analytics and embedded content on or off individually.

Rejecting is as easy as accepting: both are a single click of equal prominence. Even without global consent, blocked embeds (our booking calendar and map) show a "Load" button so you can choose to load just that item.

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time, either here or using the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer of every page.

6. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy periodically to reflect changes in the cookies we use or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons.

We recommend that you review this policy regularly to stay informed about our use of cookies. The date of the last update is indicated at the top of this document.
